Gibran Cerezo
Founder & Principal Consultant
Gibran Cerezo is a petroleum geologist with 22+ years of international upstream experience across Latin America and the United States, and the founder of Mazzard Energy. For years at a time, he served as an onsite consultant to national and international operators — characterizing heavy oil in Venezuela's Orinoco Belt, deepwater fields offshore Brazil, and unconventional shale in Argentina's Vaca Muerta.
That hands-on subsurface grounding became the foundation for a second chapter in enterprise technology: leading Halliburton Landmark's geoscience software business in Brazil, then advising U.S. E&P accounts on subsurface software at Aspen Technology — translating real interpretation workflows into product value for both technical and executive stakeholders.
A Post-Graduate certification in Data Science & Business Analytics from UT Austin's McCombs School of Business rounds out that bridge between geoscience, data, and commercial strategy. Today, he leads Mazzard Energy at that same intersection — subsurface technology, digital transformation, and enterprise software adoption for the energy sector.
A track record built across four countries
22+ years spanning onsite subsurface consulting for national and international operators, technical sales leadership, and now building Mazzard Energy.
Founder & Principal Consultant
- Lead independent technical advisory for E&P operators and energy technology companies on subsurface interpretation workflows, digital transformation strategy, and enterprise software adoption.
- Draws on 22+ years of geoscience and enterprise software experience across Latin America and the U.S. to bridge technical and commercial stakeholders.
Technical Sales Account Manager – Subsurface Science & Engineering
- Managed a portfolio of upstream E&P accounts, advising U.S. operators — including unconventional producers in the Midland Basin — on subsurface and geoscience software solutions.
- Delivered technical presentations, product demonstrations, and ROI-driven value propositions to geoscience and engineering stakeholders.
- Collaborated with R&D and product teams to translate customer subsurface workflow requirements into product roadmap priorities.
Industry Solutions Advisor – Geosciences
- Led the geoscience technology business for Landmark Digital in Brazil, covering classic G&G interpretation software and cloud-native, ML-integrated products.
- Supported Petrobras and regional E&P operators in digitalization strategy, subsurface workflow analysis, and adoption of cloud-native platforms.
- Partnered with R&D teams to align customer feedback with product roadmap priorities; delivered technical presentations and workshops across Brazilian operators.
Senior Geoscientist
- Regional Technical Business Lead G&G – Latin America (2021): led geoscience technical strategy and knowledge transfer across the region for major E&P operators.
- Technical Sales Consultant G&G (2017–2020): lead technical advisor in Argentina, closing enterprise software sales and supporting Landmark technology adoption for YPF and other operators.
- Geophysical Technical Advisor – Unconventional Reservoirs (2015–2017): applied natural fracture modeling, microseismic/VSP interpretation, and seismic geosteering for horizontal well placement in the Vaca Muerta shale.
Consultant Geoscientist
- Onsite Consultant to Petrobras UO-RIO across six deepwater working groups and exploration teams.
- Performed 3D/4D seismic interpretation, velocity modeling, well-tie analysis, and spectral decomposition for deepwater reservoir characterization; delivered technical training to multidisciplinary teams.
Consultant Geoscientist
- Led the Geology & Geophysics practice team in Buenos Aires, providing technical leadership for onsite support to YPF on tight gas and Vaca Muerta shale reservoirs.
- Served as development geophysicist for Repsol YPF in Neuquén, executing 2D/3D seismic interpretation, time-depth conversion, and volumetric calculations.
Consultant Geoscientist — Development Geology
- Onsite Consultant to PDVSA for integrated studies of heavy oil fields in the Orinoco Belt — stratigraphic and sedimentological interpretation, well correlation, core description, and structural/paleo/iso mapping.
- Built 3D geological frameworks and facies models; quantified reserves and designed drilling and workover proposals incorporating risk and uncertainty analysis.
- Instructor in geosciences and Landmark applications (OpenWorks, DS Geosciences, Zmap, StratWorks) for PDVSA teams; mentored junior geoscientists.
- Completed short-term rotations to PEMEX (Samaria-Luna, Mexico) for seismic interpretation and data migration, and to Halliburton's Houston R&D center for 3D geomodeling software testing.
